A 58-year-old Lao farmer was yesterday charged in Stung Treng Provincial Court for trafficking more than one kilogram of crystal methamphetamine from Laos to Cambodia.
Duong Vichetre, deputy commander of the provincial military police, identified the accused as Thav Cheuy, from Vientiane province’s Moeung district in Laos.
He was arrested on Friday afternoon as he attempted to smuggle the drugs over the border into Stung Treng’s O-Svay commune.
“He was arrested red-handed after transporting the drugs from the Thai border to Stung Treng province,” Mr Vichetre said. “After his arrest, military police seized more than 12,000 tablets of ice from him.”
The accused faces at least 25 years in prison if convicted and has been detained awaiting trial.
