KARACHI: Police on Saturday brought suspended SSP Malik Rao Anwar to anti-terrorism court (ATC) for hearing on the murder case of Naqeebullah Mehsud, whom he is accused of killing in a fake encounter in Karachi.
Anwar was once again produced without the handcuffs, despite earlier protest by Naqeebullah’s family against protocol being given to the former police officer.
Before his court appearance on Saturday, the former police officer has filed his bail petition stating that information in geo-fencing, joint investigation reports and charge-sheet is contradictory.
Anwar was supposed to appear before the court on May 2 but did not as it was said that his health condition had deteriorated. According to the medical certificate, submitted in the court, former SSP could not be presented due to his illness, the exact nature of the illness, however, was not mentioned.
According to the charge-sheet and investigation being done so far, Anwar is the central character of the extrajudicial killing of Naqeebullah and three others.
