One person was arrested and another detained during a protest against President Trump that took place Friday evening outside a GOP fundraiser at the Four Seasons Resort.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office told a local reporter the incidents took place shortly after 7 p.m. local time, when Trump was slated to arrive at the Palm Beach, Fla., hotel for his speech before the Republican National Committee’s mega donors.
An estimated three dozens demonstrators showed up at the hotel. Secret Service kept them at a 100-yard distance from the resort’s entrance on South Ocean Boulevard.
Protesters carried signs; played the drums, trombone and a cowbell; and chanted “No Donald Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA.”
The Four Seasons is about a five-mile drive south of Trump’s Mar-a-Lago Resort.
The local police did not respond to a request for comment.
Trump, who self-funded much of his 2016 campaign, took the stage Friday night in his first official appeal to mega donors of the Republican National Committee.
Although the Palm Beach event was private, Trump – who has already mentioned running for reelection in 2020 – was likely setting the stage for his reelection bid.
A few hundred people were expected at the weekend donor retreat.
