Qatar and Austria yesterday strengthened bilateral relations with the signing of two memorandums of understanding during Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani’s two-day official visit. H H the Amir met with Federal President of the Republic of Austria, Alexander Van der Bellen at Hofburg Presidential Palace.
During the meeting, the two sides reviewed bilateral relations and means of enhancing them in various fields. H H the Amir and the President also exchanged views on current issues in the Middle East and the world. Upon arrival at the Hofburg Palace, H H the Amir was accorded an official reception ceremony.
During a session of official talks, they discussed aspects of enhancing joint cooperation to cover various fields, especially in politics, economy, investment, health, and education. The leaders also discussed the latest regional and international developments, especially the situation in Palestine, in addition to the Gulf crisis.
The meeting was attended by the Their Excellencies, the members of the official delegation accompanying H H the Amir. The Federal President of the Republic of Austria hosted a luncheon banquet in honour of H H the Amir. Later in the afternoon, Amir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Chancellor of the Republic of Austria, Sebastian Kurz, witnessed the signing ceremony of two memorandums of understanding, at the Chancellery in Vienna.
The first MoU was on economic, trade and technical cooperation between the Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Federal Ministry for Digital and Economic Affairs in the Republic of Austria. The MoU aims to promote economic relations, improve the level of trade exchange, encourage the establishment of exhibitions and mutual events between the two countries and exempt customs duties on some imports and exports.
The second MoU was in the tourism field between Qatar National Tourism Council and the Federal Ministry for Sustainability and Tourism in the Republic of Austria. The MoU aims to develop and promote cooperation between both countries in this field.
H H the Amir and the Chancellor of Austria also discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations in various fields, especially economy, investment, trade, energy and technology. The talks also discussed current regional and international developments. H H the Amir and the Chancellor also held a bilateral meeting at the Chancellery.
H H the Amir left Vienna yesterday evening after a two-day official visit. H H the Amir sent cables to Federal President of the Republic of Austria, Alexander Van der Bellen, and Chancellor of the Republic of Austria, Sebastian Kurz, expressing deep thanks and appreciation for the hospitality and honor accorded to him during the visit, which allowed the exchange of views on issues of common concern and means of strengthening and promoting the friendly relations and cooperation between the two countries in various fields for the good and the benefit of the two peoples.
H H the Amir wished the President and the Chancellor the best of health and happiness, and the friendly people of Austria further progress and prosperity.
