To start off the last day of the 2018 Overwatch World Cup Bangkok Group Stage, we had home team Team Thailand taking on Team Sweden. Thailand started off with an impressive performance on Lijiang Tower, taking Sweden down 2-0 without letting the Swedes ever get control of a point. This means that Sweden is now out of contention for BlizzCon, as they needed to win every single map in both their matches today to still be in with a chance.
Unfortunately for Thailand, this momentum fell of rather quickly, and they lost the next three maps, ultimately falling to Sweden 3-1.
Sadly, Team Thailand is now 0-4 with a -7 map differential. While they are out of contention for making to BlizzCon, they still have one more chance to win later tonight against Team Spain (currently at the bottom with Thailand 0-3 and a -7 map differential. Team Spain face Team China right now – you can catch the action live on Twitch).
Team Sweden’s Hugo “SharP” Shalberg and Team Thailand’s Patiphan “Patiphan” Chaiwong both unleashed Graviton Surges at the same time right before the second point on Rialto. Both teams held up pretty well, but Thailand won the fight. This gave Kantapat “SaiyajinGOD” Tangteekarak the opportunity to clean house, and push Team Sweden into a full reset.
Team Sweden has one more match left today at 11:30PM Pacific, 1:30PM Indochina against Team Denmark, who are currently trailing behind Team Australia in third place. Team Thailand will be closing this group stage out at 3:00AM Pacific, 5:00PM Indochina, taking on Team Spain. For more information on when to catch today’s matches, check out our handy guide.
